James Andrew (Jim) Smith, EA, ATA

Jim has nearly five decades of tax, accounting and financial services experience. He founded Smith Accounting in Iowa City in 1977, and in 1979, the firm began offering mutual funds through Ozark National Life Insurance before expanding into comprehensive financial planning in 1994 by creating Smith Financial Services.

For more than 30 years, Jim and his son, Johann, helped clients integrate their taxes, investments, insurance and retirement planning before Smith Financial Services merged into and rebranded with Stewards Planning Group in 2025. Jim holds of Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Brigham Young University, is a past president of the Iowa Association of Enrolled Agents and is a former Growth Through Community chapter leader for the firm’s national broker-dealer, Avantax, a Cetera company.

In his free time, Jim enjoys fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
